Editor's Biography
John Oakes is Rector of Holy Trinity Church, Vancouver and Regional Dean of the Granville-Point Grey Deanery in the Diocese of New Westminster. He has also served as Lecturer in Anglican Studies at Regent College, Vancouver. He immigrated to Canada from England in 1989 and is now a Canadian as well as a British citizen.
John has been an Anglican priest since 1997 and also ministered at St. Mark's, Ocean Park, St. Cuthbert's, North Delta, and St. John's (Shaughnessy). He has been educated at Magdalen College, Oxford (B.A. and M.A. in Classics), Regent College (M.C.S. in Church History and MDiv.), University of British Columbia (M.A. in History) and Vancouver School of Theology (Anglican ordination studies). In 1998, John completed a PhD. in History from Simon Fraser University. He has worked as both a journalist and editor, most recently editing the inter-denominational Christian magazine "Today" in the U.K.. He is a member of the Canadian Association of Journalists.
John was elected a delegate to General Synod 2007 from the Diocese of New Westminster and has served as a member of the Council of the Anglican Essentials Federation.
